Course overview
This course trains supervisors, health and safety representatives, and anyone appointed to investigate incidents, to do the job properly from the first minute to the closed-out record.
It follows the Occupational Health and Safety Act's incident reporting duty and the General Administrative Regulations' recording and investigation duty. It is self-paced and written in plain English.
What you will learn
- What counts as an incident, and why near misses are investigated too.
- Which incidents the employer must report, how soon, and to whom.
- The difference between reporting an incident and claiming compensation for it.
- The correct first actions at an incident scene, and what may and may not be moved.
- How to gather evidence from people, the scene, equipment and paperwork.
- How to work from the immediate cause back to the underlying cause.
- How to write corrective actions with an owner and a date, and close them out.
- How to record the incident and the investigation findings correctly.
Assessment and certification
The course ends with a final assessment drawn at random from the course question bank. You need 80% to pass, and you may reset the quiz and try again.
An employer sign-off sheet is included so that the employer can verify the competencies in the workplace and designate the learner as an Incident Investigator for a named area.
