Course overview
This online course gives tattoo artists and permanent makeup professionals a clear, practical understanding of bloodborne pathogens and infection control in a studio environment. Working with needles and skin penetration creates a real risk of exposure to blood and infectious materials — this course shows you how infection happens and, more importantly, how to prevent it. It supports the duty under the OHS Act to provide a safe, healthy working environment for you, your team and your clients.

- How infection actually happens: routes of infection, exposure versus infection, and the high-risk situations in studio work
- The major bloodborne diseases — Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV — and other infectious risks in studios
- How to prevent infection: hand hygiene, preventing cross-contamination, personal protective equipment and a safe workstation
- Safe handling and disposal of needles and sharps, managing blood spills, and handling contaminated waste
- Exactly what to do if an exposure incident happens — immediate response, medical care, and your professional and legal responsibilities
Course duration
Approximately 2 hours of self-paced online learning — 27 short lessons you can complete on any device, in your own time.
Assessment & Certification
The course ends with a final assessment drawn at random from the course question bank. You need 80% to pass, and you can retake the assessment if you need to. On passing, your certificate of completion is issued immediately.
